(opens at 9:00 AM)</li> <li>Competitors must bring their own rods, lines and leaders.</li> <li>Each competitor will have 2 minutes for warm-up and 6 minutes for casting. </li> <li>Casters can use whatever cast they choose in each of two situations: <ol> <li>Off the LEFT shoulder - Three casts can be made. One will count in the total score. </li> <li>Off the RIGHT shoulder - Three casts can be made. One will count in the total score.</li> </ol> </li> <li>The &quot;Total Score&quot; will be calculated by combining the longest cast made off the left shoulder with the longest cast made off the right shoulder. </li> </ul> <p align="left" class="style2 style1" _extended="true"><strong>Divisions: </strong></p> <blockquote> <p align="left" class="style2 style1" _extended="true">There are three divisions in the Spey casting competition based on rod length. They are as follows:</p> </blockquote> <ul> <li><u class="style1 style2" align="left" _extended="true">13 6 and Under</u>  Rods must be rated by their manufacturer at 13 6 or less and must be commercially available. A floating line must be used. First Place in this divsion will be awarded to the caster with a total distance score that is closest to the average total distance score for all casters in this division. Second Place will be awarded for longest total distance. </li> <br> <li><u class="style1 style2" align="left" _extended="true">13 7 to 15 1 </u>  Rods must be rated by their manufacturer between 13 7 and 15 1 and must be commercially available. A floating line with a leader of 15' or under must be used. First Place will be awarded for longest total distance. </li> <br> <li><u class="style1 style2" align="left" _extended="true">15 2&quot; and Over</u>  Rods must be rated by their manufacturer or warranted by the caster at 15 2&quot; or greater. A floating line must be used and the leader may be any length. First Place will be awarded for longest total distance.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Additional details:</strong></p> <blockquote> <p>The order of casting will be determined at random by the judges. Each caster's time limit is six minutes with up to a two minute warm-up. Casters will be notified approximately eight minutes prior to their casting time. A caster's name will be called twice when his/her casting time has arrived. Casts will be scored starting two minutes after their casting time has begun. Two minutes of practice are allowed before the distance portion and two minutes of practice are allowed before the accuracy portion. Once the scoring starts, every cast counts. </li> <li>A cast is counted any time the fly hits the water. </li> <li> The caster can have no more than eight false casts per cast. </li> <li>Casters can use their own personal rods or rods that are provided. A caster&rsquo;s personal rods must meet the requirements stated below for each portion of the competition. </li> <li>Casters with the top three Total Scores will be awarded for first, second and third place finishes. </li> </ul> <p><strong> Distance Rules: </strong></p> <ul> <li>Rods longer than 9-feet are not allowed. </li> <li>Rods up to 6-weight are allowed. Rods of 7-weight and up are not. </li> <li> Shooting heads, including &quot;integrated shooting heads&quot; such as Rio's Outbound lines or Airflo's Forty Plus lines, are not allowed. Only standard, out of the box floating lines are allowed. This includes lines such as SA&rsquo;s Expert Distance, Steelhead Taper, etc. </li> <li> Leader length can be no longer than 10 feet. </li> <li> Only yarn is allowable as a fly. No flies, weight, etc. </li> <li> Each caster gets six distance casts. </li> <li> The longest two casts will be averaged for the total score. </li> <li> The cast will be measured from the point where the fly hits the water. </li> </ul> <p> <strong>Accuracy Rules:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Rods longer than 9-feet are not allowed. </li> <li> Any rod weight can be used. </li> <li> Leader length must be a minimum of 7&frac12; feet and a maximum of 10 feet. </li> <li> Only yarn can be used as a fly.
